As the UK continues its journey toward a low-carbon economy, understanding the real value of green jobs has never been more important. We’re excited to share that Damian Whittard will be presenting his work using the ASHE-Census 2011 dataset at this year’s Pint of Science festival in London, bringing insights from his research into one of the UK’s most urgent labour market challenges.
🗓️ When: 20 May 2025
📍 Where: The Durell Arms, 704, Fulham Road, London, SW6 5SA
🎤 Talk title: “Green Jobs: A Sustainable Future or a New Inequality?”
Making Green Jobs Meaningful
From retrofitting homes to building renewable infrastructure, green jobs are often held up as key to a fairer, more sustainable future. But what do we really know about their quality, pay, and long-term prospects?
Damian’s research examines these questions head-on. Using new data and analysis from the WED project, he explores:
- How green jobs compare to other sectors in terms of wages and job security
- Whether transitioning to green work benefits people and places equally
- If green growth necessarily leads to inclusive, decent employment
