The Wage and Employment Dynamics (WED) project is set to host a Research Symposium on 13th November 2023. At the event, Administrative Data Research UK (ADR UK) funded Research Fellows and PHD candidates will present their research projects. All projects are based on the enriched Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) linked to Census 2011data, which was created as part of the WED project.
Background
The aim of the WED project is to create a wage and employment data spine which will transform labour market analysis in the UK. It will enable new insights into the way people’s wages progress throughout their career, accounting for key characteristics such as gender and ethnicity, as well as allowing for a detailed analysis of the dynamics of low-pay labour markets.
WED has enriched the core ASHE dataset, as well as linking it to the Census 2011. The data are now available for researchers to apply to use via the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Secure Research Service. The WED project is also currently in the process of linking ASHE to HMRC’s PAYE and Self-Assessment data, as well as its Migrant Workers Scan data. These datasets will be available for researchers to access early in 2024.
Symposium Aims
There are a number of ADR UK funded researchers currently undertaking PhD and Fellowship projects utilising datasets created as part of the WED project. This event will bring these researchers together to share their ideas and discuss the novel ways the new WED datasets are being used.
The aim of the symposium is to provide researchers with the opportunity to receive individual, tailored feedback about their respective projects, and to allow them to connect and gain inspiration from each other’s ideas and goals.
The symposium will begin with a short introduction to the datasets from the WED team, each researcher will then provide a short presentation summarising their work. The WED team will provide the researchers with guidance and support in relation to their research and answer any questions in relation to the data and its use.
Following the event, a short summary of the themes and research aims presented at the symposium will be made available on the WED website.
