WED Research Development Workshop – University of Sheffield (21st November, 2022)

The Wage and Employment Dynamics (WED) project hosted a workshop at the University of Sheffield on 21st November. The event brought together academics and policymakers to explore policy relevant research ideas which could be addressed using the new WED datasets. Slides from the workshop are available by the following link – presentations.

Academics were informed about the research interest from a variety of departments/organisations, including the Department for Work and Pensions, Bank of England, Low Pay Commission, Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Sub-groups were formed to discuss the policy challenges and to identify how researchers could address these needs. The discussion included identifying specific research questions which could currently be addressed, while identifying barriers and additional data requirements needed to address more complex questions.

A second workshop is due to take place at the Bank of England on December 2nd. Following which, the WED team will publish a brief report on both events.
