Welcoming a research member

It is with great pleasure that the WED team welcome Dr Carl Singleton (University of Reading) to join us as a researcher.

Carl is an Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Reading. Carl received his PhD from The University of Edinburgh, where he focused on wage and employment patterns in the British labour market. Carl has experience working with the centrepiece of the Work and Employment Dynamics project, the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE). He recently used these payroll data to publish journal articles on British wage inequality, real wage rigidity, the public sector pay premium, and the gender pay gap. Carl’s latest working paper using the ASHE re-assesses the extent of Downward Nominal Wage Rigidity in Great Britain and its macroeconomic significance. When not looking at labour markets, Carl also does research in Sports Economics and Prediction Markets.

We are confident that his expertise and dedication can contribute significantly to our research theme.
